In order to be successful you will be required to take steps everyday to protect your attitude from negative thoughts of fear and worry. You fight these evils with gratitude and action. I created this simple form that I fill out everyday that I call the Positive Attitude Adjuster. Take it, modify it, use it. I challenge my readers to commit to doing this for 30 days consecutively to see amazing results. Any comments on how I could improve this form are also greatly appreciated.

Positive Attitude Adjuster

  1. Definiteness of Purpose, supported by personal initiative or action.
  2. The habit of Going the Extra Mile in all human relationships.
  3. A Master Mind alliance with one or more people who radiate courage based on Faith, and who are suited spiritually and mentally to one’s needs in carrying out a given purpose.
  4. A Positive Mind, free from all negatives, such as fear, envy, greed, hatred, jealousy, and superstition.
  5. Recognition of the truth that every adversity carries with it the seed of an equivalent benefit, that temporary defeat is not failure until it has been accepted as such.
  6. The habit of affirming one’s Definite Major Purpose in life, in a ceremony of meditation, at least once daily.
  7. Recognition of the existence of Infinite Intelligence, which gives orderliness to the universe; that all individuals are minute expressions of this Intelligence, and the individual mind has no limitations except those which are accepted and set up by the individual in his or her own mind.
  8. A careful inventory (in retrospect) of one’s past defeats and adversities, which will reveal the truth that all such experiences carry the seed of an equivalent benefit.
  9. Self-respect expressed through harmony with one’s own conscience.
  10. Recognition of the oneness of all humankind.

Nobody has ever accomplished anything, never created anything, never devised any plans or developed a definite chief aim without the use of imagination ! Everything ever created or built was first mentally visioned, through imagination. In this philosophy you learn through your imagination to take old, well-known ideas or concepts, or parts of ideas, and combine them with still other old ideas, and out of that combination create something that seems to be new. This is the major process of invention… Ideas are valuable in any business, and the one who strikes out to cultivate the power of imagination, out of which ideas are born, will sooner or later find himself headed toward financial success backed with tremendous power.

Thomas Edison is a perfect example. It was a known fact that light could be created by applying electrical energy to wire, to heat it to a white heat. The problem was how to control the heat. After years of thinking Edison remembered the method of burning charcoal. He finally understood that cutting off oxygen to a heat source would keep it completely from burning up. With this knowledge in mind, Edison created a vacuum tube and placed it over the wire. This is your modern light bulb.

To cultivate your imagination so it will eventually trigger ideas on its own initiative you must keep a record of all useful, ingenious, and practical ideas, you see in use in other lines of work outside of your occupation. I would recommend a pocket sized moleskin or index cards.

This procedure is practical because it has been followed successfully by some of the best known leaders and business leaders.

“Everything you can imagine is real”
~ Pablo Picasso

The dreamer who creates practical ideas must place back of these ideas:

It is your business to succeed in life and yours alone! How you define success is your call.

Anyone who can create plans and ideas that will cause the number of patrons of any business to constantly increase, and who is able to send all the patrons away satisfied, is well on his way to success. Regardless of the venture.

1. Definiteness of Purpose

This is the first and the most important step in developing persistence. If you have a strong enough motive behind your purpose, no obstacle may stand in your way.

2. Desire

With a strong enough desire you may accomplish whatever you set your mind upon.

3. Self-Reliance

Belief in your ability to carry out a plan encourages you to follow the plan through with persistence.

4. Definiteness of Plans

Organized plans, even though they may be weak and entirely impractical, encourages persistence.

5. Accurate Knowledge

Knowing that your plans are sound, encourages persistence. Merely “guessing” instead of “knowing”, destroys it.

6. Cooperation

Sympathy, understanding, and harmonious cooperation with others tends to develop persistence

7. Willpower

The habit of concentrating your thoughts upon the building of plans for the attainment of a Definite Purpose leads to persistence.

8. Habit

Persistence is the direct result of habit. The mind absorbs and becomes part of the daily experiences upon which it feeds. Fear, the worst of all enemies, can be effectively cured by forced repetition of acts of courage. ACTION CURES FEAR.

Have a heart-to-heart talk with yourself and honestly assess whether you have any problems you’re no longer attempting to resolve only because you have accepted as “fact” that they cannot be solved, whether you are living out circumstances in your life that are unfufilling or even demeaning to you because you have accepted as fact that you cannot alter them. Reconsider! Apply current rational thought to challenge these beliefs and then use your imagination to “shop around” and try out new and different possibilities.

  • Why do you believe that you can’t?
  • Is this belief based on an actual fact or on an assumption or false conclusion?
  • Is there any rational reason for such a belief?
  • Could it be that I am mistaken in this belief?
  • Would I come to the same conclusion about some other person in a similar situation?
  • Why should I continue to act and feel as if this were true if there is no good reason to believe it?

I know that my faith in God determines my future. My faith in God means my faith in all things good. I unite myself now with true ideas, and I know the future will be in the image and likeness of my habitual thinking. From this moment forward my thoughts are on Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are lovely, and of good report (Phil 4:8) Day and night I meditate on these things and I know these seeds, or thoughts, that I habitually dwell upon will become a rich harvest for me. I am the captain of my own soul; I am the master of my fate; for my thought and feeling are my destiny.
